About Us

Sudan's Trusted Execution Arm Since 2007

Sudanese Commercial Law Office (SCLO) was founded in Khartoum in 2007 with a single purpose: to give international clients direct, reliable access to Sudanese commercial law. Today, SCLO is the only Chambers Global-ranked law firm in Sudan with a permanent UK presence, operating from Khartoum and Cardiff.

Our founding principal, Wael Abdin, is dual-qualified in Sudan and England and Wales — one of a small number of Sudanese lawyers to hold SRA registration. Every member of the SCLO team is bilingual. We work to the standards international clients expect, while navigating Sudanese law the way only a locally embedded firm can.

SCLO operates across ten practice areas and ten industry sectors. We act in transactional work, litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters. Our clients include multinational corporations, Magic Circle law firms, development finance institutions, and international organisations including ICARDA and the Near East Foundation.

Founders Message

Sudan Is Complex. We Make It Navigable.

Sudan is one of the most complex and consequential legal markets in the world. Navigating it requires more than technical knowledge — it requires relationships, presence, and an uncompromising commitment to the client's outcome.

SCLO was built on that commitment. Since 2007, we have advised international law firms, multinational corporations, development finance institutions, and international organisations on their most significant Sudan matters — from sovereign debt proceedings and billion-dollar arbitrations to market entry, infrastructure projects, and regulatory compliance.

Our Chambers Global ranking is not a marketing credential. It is the independent verdict of the clients and peers who have worked with us. We are proud of it, and we work every day to deserve it.

International clients come to SCLO because they need a Sudan law firm that operates to their standards. That is precisely what we are built to deliver.
